Reading and Writing are
key to a student's success in all areas. Writing better and
often will help clarify thinking and demonstrate understanding.
Here are a couple of tips we located that may help in improving this
area:
Writer's Notebook: Add something each day to a journal. Remember to tell who, what, when, where, and maybe why. Write about a something important that happened that day, that made you laugh, or that you just want to remember. Hamburger Paragraph: The top bun is the Topic Sentence. The sentence that states an opinion or tells what will be described. All of the goodies on the hamburger (meat, cheese, pickles, lettuce, etc.) are the Supporting Sentences. These will be all of the juicy details that will make the paragraph better and more interesting. The bottom bun is the Concluding Sentence. You can even use a diagram of a hamburger in creating a rough draft. Draw it out and fill it in. Look for Writing Opportunities: Whether it is a simple reminder note or a to-do list, don't miss an opportunity to practice writing skills. Check work Carefully: Get into the habit of rereading work. You should always check for correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Thanks to Scholastic for these Tips
